Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

As you are all probably more than aware (especially because I've been bombarding you with it for the last week!) Today is book club day! YAY!

So.... Have you read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? What did you think? Would you recommend it? And will you see the movie?? What did you like? What did you dislike? Feel free to add to the linky list below if you have ever done a post on the book... Or just add you opinions to the comments section. I look forward to reading them all!

So what I liked... I liked that it was another Harry Potter book, I've found the entire series to be very spell-binding! I fell in love with the very first book, the imagination behind it was entrancing. I loved the characters (still). I loved that I started to feel sorry for the Malfoys, despite their misgivings. 

What I disliked... the storyline... it was a bit 'frou-frou' and in parts a bit boring, it was a little long-winded in the descriptive. I hadn't noticed that in any of Rowlings' previous titles... maybe it was because I went so long 'between drinks'? I also hated the fact that so many of my favourite characters had to get hurt to achieve the end result. The series has changed from a fun book to read to a gory action flick with loads of action scenes and killing.

I was hugely disappointed by the ending.. it should've been left open so we'd be gagging for more!! And maybe the suggestion of a new 'Bad Guy' Voldemort is soo passe!

Will I watch the movie, definitely BUT only because it's 'Harry Potter'!!

That is this month's Book Club... short and sweet, but with the movie due out shortly we wouldn't want to be putting too many spoilers up to ruin it for those of you intending to watch it without reading the book first!!

Slytherin

This house is named for Salazar Slytherin. Its symbol is the snake because Salazar Slytherin spoke Parsel, the language of serpents. Rowling views this house as symbolizing the element water. The Sorting Hat says that

Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your friends;
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.

The resident ghost is the Bloody Baron, and the head of Slytherin House was Severus Snape, at least until the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Despite the many Dark Wizards that came out of this house and its history, Rowling herself has defended Slytherin against the impression that it is a bastion of evil. The name has the idea of snakes in it due to the word “slither”, and remains unchanged in the translations of the Harry Potter series except in French, in which it becomes Serpentard, an obvious development.

Hogwarts four Houses are also similar to what exists in many schools in Britain and elsewhere in the world. What makes them particularly distinctive is that students are placed into a particular house by the Sorting Hat during the Sorting Ceremony. The Sorting Hat itself created naming problems in foreign-language editions, with the French choixpeau magique being the most ingenious solution for its fusion of choisir (choose, select) and chapeau (hat).
