<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xyLltCuE8y8/VzWOgdiKtZI/AAAAAAAAIlA/LVyMpY5q74sHA8KjPZ29BE-GMjzKaXK-QCLcB/s1600/253ca724700e4159457d84d2ad81cd84.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xyLltCuE8y8/VzWOgdiKtZI/AAAAAAAAIlA/LVyMpY5q74sHA8KjPZ29BE-GMjzKaXK-QCLcB/s1600/253ca724700e4159457d84d2ad81cd84.jpg" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sometimes we loose track of things, we get so caught up in seeking perfection that we miss what is happening right in front of our noses. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The pavlova that cracks in the oven... it's still delicious!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not getting 200% on your sales targets... you still hit the mark. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The craft project which has already been re-worked three times... it's beautiful.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We need to stop beating ourselves up about the perfection, good is enough. Practise good and we'll soon reach great together. But it's important to stop and smell the roses, don't keep chasing and miss the moments... because those moments are oh. so. important! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy Tuesday xx</div>

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JzPV70crsGU/Vt0pBuNgrxI/AAAAAAAAIjE/nJ-abIeeC-o/s1600/IMG_4007.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JzPV70crsGU/Vt0pBuNgrxI/AAAAAAAAIjE/nJ-abIeeC-o/s400/IMG_4007.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A few years ago I had my mantra tattooed on my wrist - a daily reminder to love my life - live a life I love and spend my life in love and being loved... but recently - there have been some life circumstances blocking this mantra from existing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So what do you do when the mantra is being blocked? Why you step outside and you go find yourself. You go find the things that make you happy. The people who surround you with love and happiness. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
You step into the sunshine and you don't hold back - you take the dog for a walk, you run with your son whilst he rides his bicycle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
You find those things that bring you joy and you lap them up, like an ice cream on a hot summer's day, licking up every last drop. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
You may have noticed the blog has been a little bit quiet of late, it's because I've been finding myself, finding the mantra and spending the summer outdoors and enjoying the sunshine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I recently received a new necklace from <a href="http://www.michaelhill.co.nz/">Michael Hill</a>, it's light and dainty and the perfect daily reminder of what's important to me. <span style="text-align: center;">It's gorgeous worn by itself or worn with a complementing gold chain! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I thought I'd spend time taking it on a tour of the great outdoors...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Having spent the summer doing all of those things - I can promise to ya'll that I've found my mantra again... and I'm ready, really truly ready to take this bull by the horns, love my life - live a life I love and spend my life in love and being loved. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Did you know Michael Hill started in 1979 in little ol' Whangarei? A man with a vision, and idea, maybe the creative-indie of his time... just like you and I. And now Michael Hill has more than 293 stores across New Zealand, Australia, United States and Canada with more than 2000 employees. All it takes is a dream, and a whole lot of hard work - never let yourself forget that. </div>

<b><i><br></i></b>
<b><i>Cassidy Boon is suing the guy who saved her from drowning for rape...</i></b><br>
<br>
ARE THEY FRICKEN SERIOUS????<br>
<br>
Do these women understand the true struggles that so many of our gender face? We have so many empowered women working so hard to create gender equality to improve the lives of the women of the third world countries who live such difficult lives.<br>
<br>
And these women go and behave like this?<br>
<br>
A part of me doesn't expect any less of a Jenner - after all the Jenner/Kardashian family is one built upon the world of consumerism, when you are taught by women like that how can you grow and develop without learning any differently.<br>
<br>
And I honestly don't know enough about the Cassidy story - perhaps it's legit. But from the roasting she's receiving in social media it's hard to see it as legit. Ah. The power of social media.<br>
<br>
My world as a woman is similar to that of many of my readers. I take pride in being a woman in being me.<br>
<br>
<b><i>But what does being me mean?</i></b><br>
<br>
Like Jenner I love deciding what to wear, putting on a nice dress and heels, doing my hair and face and feeling beautiful. But I feel just as empowered in trackies and a pony tail. Something I know my forbearers didn't have the luxury or choice of doing. Woman wore dresses after all, nothing less.<br>
<br>
I also love having a career, working the 9-5 in the finance industry whilst also raising my precious son. But, once upon a time I wouldn't have had this choice - I wouldn't have been able to leave my son so young to continue my career. I wouldn't have had the choice to work creatively. I would have been at home tending and raising.<br>
<br>
For me tending and raising lead to post-natal depression, I lost the ability to function. How many of those before us didn't have the choice to return to routine instead of stay lost in this haze? Or altogether lost.<br>
<br>
There was also a choice to become a single Mother rather than stay in an unhealthy relationship. I know even today this isn't a choice granted to many women and was once upon unheard of and considered irresponsible.<br>
<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">
I love my hobbies - my ability to work with indies throughout New Zealand, watching their businesses flourish and grow whilst they support their families with their creative incomes. Once upon a time this wasn't considered normal. I'm so glad it's considered normal now.<br>
<br>
I'm grateful I get to be me. I'm grateful that so many before me thought hard so I could live this life. I'm grateful that so many are fighting hard to make this life a reality for all.<br>
<br>
I just wish some voices wouldn't be so loud and damaging, and I know... that by just writing this it is giving further voice to those I wish didn't have one.Hazel from Hazel Loves Designhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10572169796420662399noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893936675954480625.post-34946525745353170442015-10-24T09:23:00.001+13:002015-10-24T09:25:13.456+13:00NewCity MarketDaylight savings brings with it the feel of summer, tourists are returning to the square, the trams are often full and we've seen the start of the cruise ship season.<br />
<br />
Our stall holders are already starting to recognise success with a couple already reporting four figure days this early in the season!<br />
<br />
We're on the lookout for more stall holders willing to give it a go - it's already been proven that with the right conditions, stellar blue sky, mix of products suitable for the tourist market and a willing and proactive attitude results are possible.<br />

<br />
So, I had a thought - what if we started a monthly catch up.<br />
<br />
Every 'Third Tuesday of the Month' I'll be at C1 Espresso at 185 High Street ready to 'hang' with whoever wishes to 'hang' from 7pm.<br />
<br />
Come with your craft... or don't.<br />
Come with your husband... or don't.<br />
Come with your child... or don't.<br />
Come with your mojo... or don't.<br />
<br />
It'll be super casual, no need to book in - if no one shows up I'll be happy for the hour or two of peace and quiet.<br />
<br />
I know I'm shy. I know I'm awkward in social situations. I know people think I'm a snob because I don't buy into 'small talk'... If you're like me and tend to avoid these sorts of things, don't stress - come talk to me and we can be awkward together!<br />
<br />
The aim of doing this, is to provide a space where you can come with the aim of finding your mojo, finding your community and start breaking down those cliques.<br />
<br />
First one - 20th October - I'll be there with my iPad looking lame and curious about who might show up, so come and surprise me.<br />
<br />

We accept a variety of contributions for the magazine from all sorts of indie designers throughout New Zealand.<br />
<br />
If you've ever considered writing content for a magazine we offer a great opportunity to get your 'foot in the door' with an acceptive and encouraging community.<br />
<br />
<b>How does it work? </b>Pitch your idea to our team with just a few simple paragraphs outlining who or what you'd like to do, by sending an email to: hazed@hazellovesdesign.com<br />
<br />
The contributions we look for can be varied in design and nature - such as:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Features about local designers and projects.</li>
<li>Q&A's with fascinating members of our community. </li>
<li>Craft labs aka investigative research into ways our designers can further grow their businesses. </li>
<li>DIY's, recipes and tutorials to help our reader's to live creative lives. </li>
<li>Plus so much more... </li>
</ul>
<div>
<b>Once your pitch has been accepted be sure to follow the guidelines below...</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Each piece must have:</b></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><b>Column name</b> - all contributors have column names eg. Anarashii Wisdom, Upcycle It, Creative Business, Craft Lab etc. </li>
<li><b>Title</b> - generally two words, no more than four. </li>
<li><b>Writer/Interviewer</b> - tell us who is responsible for the words.</li>
<li><b>Photography/Images</b> - tell us who is responsible for the images. </li>
<li><b>For features about a designer:</b> we need to know where to shop, Facebook page & email address. </li>
<li><b>For features/articles written by you and not about a designer:</b> we need to know your website and/or Facebook page. </li>
</ul>
<div>
<i>Pieces submitted without this core information unfortunately can not be accepted. </i></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>We have a preferred layout of our DIY's and tutorials:</b></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Introduction - generally a paragraph long. </li>
<li>Starts with a 'You will need' list of ingredients and/or project requirements. Each ingredient should have a capital letter for consistency across all contributors.</li>
<li>Instructions - should be numbered 1, 2, 3 etc. To make it easy to follow the instructions. </li>
<li>Conclusion - generally a paragraph long - but not necessary. Some projects may not require this step.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
If you have any questions - please feel free to ask. If this is your first time contributing, please don't be scared - if you get it wrong, we won't bite. That's a promise! </div>

For those that don't already know I am in LOVE with interiors, I enjoy nothing more than spending hours researching in magazines, Pinterest and even on shopping expeditions - where I walk away with nought but feel inspired by the spaces I see.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-S5gsRPCaivw/Vdllr4OBTmI/AAAAAAAAIUc/r-fkC0dvuSE/s1600/IMG_2424.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="346" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-S5gsRPCaivw/Vdllr4OBTmI/AAAAAAAAIUc/r-fkC0dvuSE/s400/IMG_2424.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Happy camper enjoying his room and a lollipop</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I've had this particular space in the pipeline for a while now... Brooklyn is in LOVE with superheroes at the moment - all of them: Spiderman, Superman, Batman, Hulk, The Ninja Turtles - you name it - he loves them!<br />
<br />
Being that my favourite colour combo of the last couple of years has been black, grey and yellow - in all my wisdom I decided to create a Batman space when it was time to upgrade from toddler boy to his big boy room.<br />
<br />
Alas - as all good things do, the space grew organically - although I initially introduced a few key pieces in the colour combo to match. The more the space grew the more it took on an evolution of its' own.<br />
<br />
Firstly was the Mickey Mouse clock - something gifted him by his Aunty - and as he has had a long time love of Mickey Mouse we couldn't not include it in the space.<br />
<br />
Next was the skateboard with his name on it - again it similar colours to Mickey - and the space began to evolve beyond the black, grey and yellow I'd initially intended - and into black, red and yellow. Blending two favourites - Mickey Mouse and Batman.<br />
<br />
But then his birthday came along, and with it the introduction of his new favourite toys - all of his superheroes were now at his fingertips and rather than fight to always have them tucked into his toybox instead we decided to leave them on display for him to enjoy.<br />
<br />
This is how the space has evolved to date - although we are still to change the curtains - ghastly beige truly doesn't suit. We (Brooklyn and I) are happy with how it is working at the moment...<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I very first became interested in the world of the 'indies' when planning parties - birthdays, engagement parties, work celebrations and not to mention Christmas and Easter celebrations. I was always on the hunt for a little something extra, or out of the box to bring our celebrations to life. </div>
<div>
It was through doing this that I first unearthed my love of Etsy, which then evolved into a love of blogging and from there the rest is history. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I was on maternity leave <a href="https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.210324702336312.47062.153727061329410&type=3">I tried my hand at being an Event Planner</a> - until I realised I actually enjoying doing this for fun, and there was no way I could charge anyone for the number of hours I put into bringing these events to life to a standard of my satisfaction! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I still enjoy organising events - and so I thought I'd share some pictures from Brooklyn's fourth birthday - a pirate themed event with some of his closest little pals...</div>

<br />
Greetings!<br />
<br />
I'm writing as I pull back into port (albeit briefly), in between adventuring around New Zealand in <a href="http://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2015/fabric-decoupage-wooden-spoon-workshop/christchurch-city">my exciting new collaboration with The Cake and Craft Show</a>.<br />
<br />
Formally Dunkly's Craft Show, it was sold last year and re-branded, and is back - bigger, brighter and better than ever - with CAKE!<br />
<br />
(Did I mention there's cake?!)<br />
<br />
I'm not much of a baker. Though I've dutifully decorated my children's birthday cakes for the past ten years, even being talked into throwing icing at a wedding cake a few years back, if only I knew then what I know now!<br />
<br />
I wouldn't say I've been stalking the Go Bake stand. Just conveniently located in very close proximity. On multiple occasions.<br />
<br />
Plausible enough?<br />
<br />
As well as the cake competitions which hold entries you'll want to leave your day jobs for to try and recreate, there are conveniently timed free cake workshops throughout the day, for the three days the show is on. It's like a long weekend in craft and cake utopia.<br />
<br />
Ambling the aisles, you'll find a sublime selection of New Zealand wares that will make parting with your pocket money too easy. I'm speaking from experience.<br />
<br />
This weekend in Christchurch there are also a plethora of craft workshops for the offering. From learning how to cover a lampshade, to T-shirt stencilling and screen printing, so why not grab yourself a three day pass and immerse yourself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H0Kz3psGWAA/Vcm6p0jlqXI/AAAAAAAAIRg/yUwt1vIYltk/s1600/image1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H0Kz3psGWAA/Vcm6p0jlqXI/AAAAAAAAIRg/yUwt1vIYltk/s320/image1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-By9oLWt3g3A/Vcm6o1WLHYI/AAAAAAAAIRY/3xtJ2hRbk04/s1600/image2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-By9oLWt3g3A/Vcm6o1WLHYI/AAAAAAAAIRY/3xtJ2hRbk04/s400/image2.JPG" width="275" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, there is me.<br />
<br />
I've had my workshop kit permanently packed for the past six weeks as I've toured with the show, teaching in Auckland, Tauranga and Whangarei. Fortunately for those reading from the Mainland, I am teaching workshops at the Christchurch event this week: Friday 14th August - Sunday 16th August.<br />
<br />
It has been incredibly inspiring meeting so many people with the same outrageous view that adhering fabric to, just about anything, is an inanely ordinary thing to do.<br />
<br />
I've created four different workshops ranging from my signature decoupaged furniture to simplistically delightful wooden spoons, so there really is something for every being.<br />
<br />
They are turn up, learn, leave with finished piece type workshops (apart from the furniture one, for that I need you to bring your op-shop bargain/can't throw out but not my style family heirloom furniture pieces to makeover!)<br />
<br />
It's all about spreading the fabric decoupage word and a GREAT opportunity to come along and take advantage of my years of experience.<br />
<br />
We'll have the country covered in fabric from Mt Herbert to Mt Wellington in no time!<br />
<br />
See you there x<br />

And it has taken a long, long time for it to find it's way back.<br />
<br />
I've been lethargic - No matter how much sleep I get the lethargy has maintained it's persistence.<br />
<br />
I've had a serial case of procrastination - You know the 'I'll just do this first and then I'll...' but where the procrastination has spread it's wings over a series of weeks! Okay, sometimes months!<br />
<br />
Nothing has been motivating or fun. Actually I lie, my old addiction of spending money at the mall has been fun. But beyond that I've been struggling to find fun in things that I sincerely enjoy.<br />
<br />
It's been a case of wake up, put one foot in front of the other, go to work, stick to routine, go to sleep. REPEAT.<br />
<br />
There have also been quite a lot of 'I'm fine' or 'I'm all good'. But actually just disappearing into the oblivion to avoid those conversations altogether.<br />
<br />
This happened once before - I'd been on maternity leave for just over twelve months, similarly it was the middle of winter and for a period of ten days I just didn't leave the house, I didn't even venture as far as the letterbox!!<br />
<br />
That time around I had a WAIT. WHAT. moment. As soon as I was conscious of what I was doing, my brain snapped out of the fog, I realised something had to change, I made the decision to put Brooklyn into childcare, sent myself back to work and launched Hazed magazine.<br />
<br />
This time it's been a little trickier, I have been conscious of my behaviours, I have been conscious of the reason these behaviours have started, but it has been trickier to lift the fog and find my mojo again.<br />
<br />
I finally listened to my Mother. <i>Groan.</i> And decided to visit a counsellor - and even though I walked away from the initial sessions thinking 'what a waste of time' - a lot of what the counsellor said has resonated to be true the more that I've thought about it.<br />
<br />
This time it's been a case of accept your reality. Make the changes that need to be made. Grieve and accept those changes and my new reality.<br />
<br />
Now, I feel the fog lifting, I feel the motivation, drive and ambition returning. My mojo is coming back and I feel ready to take life by the horns and achieve the success I desire in all aspects of my life... within my family, my career, my hobbies and here's hoping - in love.<br />
<br />
So, why am I over-sharing on here? In a rambling and mostly incoherent post?<br />
<br />
I thought you deserve an explanation for my absence.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
And, more importantly I recognise that as creatives we are more temperament to the emotions that boggle our brain. That brain-boggling more often that not equals creativity and that maybe, one of the fellow indies who read this blog will understand this incoherent ramble and maybe just maybe relate to it?<br />
<br />
Sometimes in life we loose our mojo, sometimes it takes a while to resurface. But once it does fabulousness like you've never seen can be achieved.<br />
<br />
And I can only promise you that there is more fabulousness than you've ever seen just around the corner! xHazel from Hazel Loves Designhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10572169796420662399noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893936675954480625.post-37158486258627988642015-05-11T11:25:00.000+12:002015-05-11T11:26:32.983+12:00Pay It Forward<div style="text-align: justify;">
I became involved with Pay It Forward about three years ago - when it was little more than a couple of people with a dream and a vision for our local community. Last month the store relocated into it's new site and I thought I would (finally) share some of my thoughts on the project and how it all came to be. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7msb2Ot8clE/VU_l6H-AesI/AAAAAAAAIPs/UoWQBrLDA8s/s1600/20150313_PIF_opening-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7msb2Ot8clE/VU_l6H-AesI/AAAAAAAAIPs/UoWQBrLDA8s/s400/20150313_PIF_opening-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It has been quite a journey from those humble beginnings - I frightfully put my hand up to give a speech at the opening - and followed on from some mighty professional speakers. I thought I'd share some of my notes that I'd written to help with my speech - although with the bundle of nerves I was carrying on the night I'm sure it was no where near as eloquent as this!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUt9-qAAPKc/VU_l-35AtnI/AAAAAAAAIQc/jQkI-joJN1o/s1600/20150313_PIF_opening-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUt9-qAAPKc/VU_l-35AtnI/AAAAAAAAIQc/jQkI-joJN1o/s400/20150313_PIF_opening-7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OUTkYm3TWHo/VU_l6sX3WYI/AAAAAAAAIP4/jtr6BuXKZ4E/s1600/20150313_PIF_opening-15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OUTkYm3TWHo/VU_l6sX3WYI/AAAAAAAAIP4/jtr6BuXKZ4E/s400/20150313_PIF_opening-15.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The Pay It Forward space has exceeded the expectations of what we built in our dreams three years ago - not only have we created a beautiful place for our community to come visit, shop and learn from. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We've also created a beautiful micro-community of designers full of inclusion - where we mentor and support one another through the growth and development of our indie businesses. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It's a space we as designers can come to be acknowledged, inspired and embraced by fellow crafters. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Pay It Forward is a truly unique shopping destination - where else in Christchurch can you say that those behind the concept literally put their heart and soul into getting in there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Where else in Christchurch can you say that the shop and display was created with heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears of the community? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Where else in Christchurch can you announce that each of the pieces were hand crafted by people from our fine city - with heart and soul?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So local - that some pieces were made within a block of the store!?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Pay It Forward is quite literally built from the creative heart of it's community. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ag0CAmI69kM/VU_l6nz6xvI/AAAAAAAAIPw/EaMIkaCHgTI/s1600/20150313_PIF_opening-16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ag0CAmI69kM/VU_l6nz6xvI/AAAAAAAAIPw/EaMIkaCHgTI/s400/20150313_PIF_opening-16.jpg" width="335" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ginny Larsen is the gorgeous soul who brought the store into fruition - a true visionary and supporter of our local community. I feel lucky to be embraced and supported by her in all that we choose to do.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BzMdPAX_FIo/VU_l8a1WJkI/AAAAAAAAIQE/nm5GisYEMMY/s1600/20150313_PIF_opening-18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="390" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BzMdPAX_FIo/VU_l8a1WJkI/AAAAAAAAIQE/nm5GisYEMMY/s400/20150313_PIF_opening-18.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
To be honest, the cutting of the ribbon was the first time I got to visit the newly refurbished site - it was super exciting to see it for the first time and feel it pulsing with the energy and excitement of others enjoying it too. </div>

They've somehow morphed forward from the humble curtain tie back, to being a trend sensation, seen on the end of phones, in garland form on walls, cushion covers and bed spreads... <div>
<b>To make:</b></div>
<div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><b>1.</b> Using your fork, wrap the embroidery thread around it about thirty times. You could wrap more for a fuller looking tassel, but I found thirty was pretty optimum for what I was after. </span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span>

</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><b>2.</b> Once the excess thread is cut off, use the same colour thread to tie around the top two fork prongs. Tie this really tight!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<b style="text-align: justify;">3. </b><span style="text-align: justify;">Pull the tassel off the fork and cut right along the bottom. Tidy up all loose thread and tah dah - one mini tassel! </span><br />

</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><b>4. </b>Repeat until you have the required amount of tassel's that you are wanting to place on your necklace. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><b>5. </b>Lay your necklace out and choose your tassel spacings. I started at the mid point (opposite the closure mechanism), and went from there. </span></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;"><b>6.</b> Secure you tassels to your necklace with your jump rings. </span></div>

I never thought I'd use that for a title, I was a late bloomer on the YOLO front - for the longest time I wasn't aware, nor did I really care what the acronym was all about - but that my friends, along with many other things in my life has changed. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And YOLO represents me... and where I'm headed, in my life. Right now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Explanation? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So a lot of things have been going on in this neck of the woods... Pay It Forward is opening it's new store - I'll share lots of photos of the opening - and eek, maybe my speech after the event on Friday. Hazed in the Square is flourishing with a fabulous community of designers working towards the common goal of a successful inner city marketplace - again I can't wait to tell you more. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And on a personal level, after twelve years - I've started dating again. Yes that's right - I one, Hazel Schreiner am now a 'single lady'. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm not quite ready to share the story of what went down. It's kind of major. It's kind of emotional. And it's kind of not what you'd expect. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We'd be kind of heading this way for the last six to twelve months, but it became solid and official just recently. It's kind of weird you know - you enter into any relationship with your best foot forward. You enter into a marriage with the understanding that this is the 'forever' you. You enter into the realm of parenthood with the understanding of a lifetime. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But things change. Things happen. We grow. Life evolves.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QicpaJBMizs/VP_-qXpAISI/AAAAAAAAIMY/J1jrfXSV8ic/s1600/6a8d1b5bfaf2a7da22ed379f7468c2a4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QicpaJBMizs/VP_-qXpAISI/AAAAAAAAIMY/J1jrfXSV8ic/s1600/6a8d1b5bfaf2a7da22ed379f7468c2a4.jpg" height="400" width="383" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://christainnewyork.com/2014/02/09/inspired-a-lesson-from-how-i-met-your-mother-what-purpose-does-your-time-serve/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: xx-small;">Image Source</span></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So this where the YOLO comes in - I can do a lot of things - I can start a magazine and take it to print - I have been known to run successful craft markets - and I can take on a weekly market and scrub it and scrub it until it is shiny and bright - I can bank and lend my way to a successful finance career - and I'm a damn good Mum too - but when it comes to dating. Yip, I'm clueless. With out a clue. Not even a single clue. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's not like riding a bicycle ladies. You forget, you gosh darn go fall in love and forget. Last time I dated, I was 19, I was young, I was fabulous. I wasn't a workaholic single Mum. I guess I was in a 'YOLO' moment in my life and nothing was going to stop me and get in my way. It was easy then. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I caught up with an old friend last weekend and she has challenged me to do three things this year - one of which is to go on at least one date by the end of the year. Challenge taken. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br class="Apple-interchange-newline" />
I can do this, I can return to my 'YOLO' self! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I set myself up for Tinder the other day - what was I thinking? People don't actually legitimately do Tinder do they? - I've had multiple 'matches' on the damn thing - admittedly most have been moron like - but I actually kind of 'dig' a guy. But even though that may be the case - I don't know to ask said guy out - I don't know how to get beyond 'small talk' and into the whole 'let's go out for coffee' thing... I just need to YOLO and ask the question. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So whilst the tan line on my fingers is only slowly dissolving and the hurt is only slowly dissipating I'm getting on this YOLO bandwagon and I'm taking up that challenge - I've only got the next nine and a half months to make it happen!<br />
<br />
How does this post relate back to 'craft' and 'made in New Zealand' - yeah, it doesn't really. But I'd like to challenge YOU to look at one thing that you are holding back on, one thing that you're not giving your full heart into and YOLO it. Take up this challenge and see how it changes for you! I'll keep you posted on my YOLO. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
SIDE NOTE: I'm not desperate and dateless. Just dateless. I am actually really, truly enjoying being me and just me. But I'd like to know that I can still 'do it', that it's not beyond me. Perhaps one day I will be ready to fall in love. Maybe, not just yet. </div>

My '<a href="http://www.hazellovesdesign.com/search/label/Love%20and%20Inspiration" target="_blank">Love and inspiration</a>' posts are an insight to all that I've been discovering, or rediscovering in the world of blogging, from across the globe. And, hopefully each of these discoveries will help to inspire you in your creative journey, as well as me in mine! </div>

Emma from <a href="http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2014/08/5-secrets-to-success.html" target="_blank">A Beautiful Mess</a> has hit the nail on the head with her 'Five Secrets to Success', I love the concept of setting yourself lofty goals alongside the realistic ones. 2013 taught me, that sometimes if you dream big, it pays off and you achieve big as well! I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and this often kicks me in the butt, especially when working and re-working and re-re-working Hazed, in the end I have to walk away leaving some imperfections because the hours in the day have captured me again! </div>

I'm in a bit of a pickle, it's a debacle I swear... Okay so maybe a 'first world' debacle, but still a mindset I'm trying to overcome!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's what's troubling me... I'm not sure if I love the hype that Kmart is pulling at the moment. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have to admit in the beginning I was hooked line and sinker, traipsing to the mall to meander the Kmart aisles and to discover the newest 'must haves'. Despite #<a href="http://www.hazellovesdesign.com/2015/01/operationquitmalls.html" target="_blank">operationquitmalls</a> still being active - a bit of a slap the wrist event, that happened on recurring occasions. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then when I wasn't at the mall I was devouring 'Rough Diamond' to see what other bargain hunters had discovered and what lucky treats their Kmarts had conjured up that mine wasn't so forthcoming with. </div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But it all came to an end over a little black bedside table.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'd seen said black bedside 'Rough Diamond' in mid-January an Auckland based store had them on sale and so I totted along to mine to see if they had any in stock. A very helpful staff member told me that whilst they had them in stock the stock was being kept aside for when the new catalogues were to be delivered early February. Fair call. Wouldn't want any misleading advertising. I could live with that. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So a very excited me waited with bated breath by my letterbox, virtually sleeping next to it, waiting for the catalogue to land. And the minute it did I again totted off to Kmart to be told - ah, no - there actually wasn't any in stock, the stock hadn't landed and wouldn't be landing until the following Monday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My first - AH WAIT, WHAT!? Moment. Who needs truth serum?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So Monday comes along, and after a busy day at the nine till five I decided to ring first and see if they had arrived... only to be told they'd SOLD OUT! AH WAIT, WHAT!? The stock only landed that day (apparently) how did they sell out so fast?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Kmart, they're clever, they're really clever. <b><i>How do you make yourself desirable?</i></b> How do you make a bargain basement brand desirable? How do you pick a brand's reputation up off the floor?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We see it with the major fashion houses ALL the time. <b><i>Produce a fabulous product</i></b> - with the fashion houses it's usually a handbag - and give them to a covetable few... models, princesses, Kardashians. Then <b><i>produce them in ridiculously limited numbers</i></b>, forcing wait lists to occur and drip feed your audience. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Which is exactly what Kmart is doing, and although you mightn't find what you came for, you're bound to walk out with at least a couple of things that you actually don't need. Further fuelling consumerism. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So the penny dropped, and I've decided I don't like their tactics... they're Kmart not Prada! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But there is the other side of it - the reason I loved this particular bedside is because it is a reproduction of a model created by Kartell one of the all time greats in future furniture design. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What made this particular design so popular and allowed it to stand the test of time, is although it was mass-market it's price tag was such that it limited it to only a certain number of households. Those, with the disposable income to sustain such a price tag. We see them in designer homes, meaning in our own - instant swag.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But now that it is available to ALL household's no matter what their disposable income... will it still hold the test of time? Will it still be popular a decade from now? Will I still love it as much then as I would now? Chances are... No.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I like to be ahead of the game with my homewares choices, so why am I coveting a Kmart bargain? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've decide I'm throwing in the towel, I'm not playing the game. And I'm off to seek out something different, something to offer my home its' instant swag - with not a Kmart swing tag in sight. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My last name should have been 'Jones' because you'll be racing to keep up with me! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ha... and I shall do it by continuing to abide by #operationquitmalls - which if it hadn't have been for Kmart, I've actually been doing an exceptional job with to date! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
What are your thoughts on Kmart?</div>
Hazel from Hazel Loves Designhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10572169796420662399noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3893936675954480625.post-62398760597739012212015-01-21T11:03:00.001+13:002015-01-24T14:26:24.673+13:00That momentI've got an hour or so to kill before I head off to work, so I thought I'd sit down and read a magazine or two from the collection which has been building taller and covering itself in dust since the beginning of summer.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This isn't the norm for me. Normally I devour magazines the minute they touch my hands. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But 'that moment' happened this morning, as I sat with my hot chocolate in one hand a magazine in the other, I realised that reading magazines has become a comparison game - comparing Hazed to these 'big boy' publications, comparing what they do really well and what they could improve on. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Comparing what WE do really well and what WE could improve on.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I guess that's why I don't devour them so quickly anymore - because reading magazines makes me reach for my 'to do' list! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also had a slightly happier realisation this morning - my taste in magazines has evolved, the magazines I do enjoy now are full of really enriching and fantastic articles. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I guess that's another reason why it takes a little longer to get through the pile! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Tell me, what's your favourite magazine?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://etsy.com/shop/thehazedcollective" target="_blank">Want to read Hazed magazine? It is available to purchase on Etsy!</a></div>

I was asked at the stroke of midnight last night what my resolutions were. I said 'I intend to start smoking in 2015'.... yup, not an honest answer - and not funny either! In reality 2014 was a super stressful year for me on a personal level and there have been times when I had considered smoking just to release some pent up frustration - it works for others, surely it could work for me. But luckily I found other much more mature means of releasing my frustrations!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I initially sat down to write this post on New Years' Eve I had quite a romantic notion as to what my New Years' resolutions would look like - eat more real food, buy good books and make time to read them, hug the ones I love etc. etc. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I had an epiphany this morning - I'd popped into Northlands Mall to use my $25 Typo voucher (a birthday gift), I left the mall having spent a further $250. No biggie, except I'd done the same yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that and each time, what had I purchased? Each time I purchased things I hadn't known I'd 'needed' or 'wanted' before I'd entered the mall!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the return home from the mall, and revisiting my goals that I had started formulating for 2015 I realised I had a pretty obvious situation - I need to quit shopping! I need to stop hitting the malls when I'm 'bored' and find more mature ways of 'filling time'. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And so, I get to the punch line... my new years resolution for 2015 is...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> <span style="font-size: large;">#OPERATIONQUITMALLS</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2015 is the year I avoid the malls, where I do my shopping online, via markets (makes sense now that The Hazed Collective are running the best one in Christchurch) and through the local retailers and boutiques. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be honest, it doesn't sound easy, in fact it seems near on impossible to me! I love my malls, I love my time spent meandering the stores - but my budget doesn't love it! And it goes against the grain of all of the philosophies I whole heartedly believe in and support through my work with The Hazed Collective. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />I'm scared - and I'm worried I won't be able to see out the week, nor the month and definitely not the year. So, stay tuned - I'm hoping by posting this on such a public forum it will make my chances of meeting this resolution that much stronger! Also keen to hear your thoughts on <b>#operationquitmalls </b>any guidance and support would be appreciated.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3orHTmyr8nI/VKUXZXga9TI/AAAAAAAAIIA/tJcxc5NxNp4/s1600/d22d23d6def06e08396d3fcf99b6a1b8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3orHTmyr8nI/VKUXZXga9TI/AAAAAAAAIIA/tJcxc5NxNp4/s1600/d22d23d6def06e08396d3fcf99b6a1b8.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: x-small;"><a href="http://www.livingeden.com/products/usamadedontbuyfromstrangersshoplocaltotebag" target="_blank">image source</a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;">My Mother reminded me that I haven't posted my goals for 2015 as yet, and truth be told I haven't sat down and worked through them just yet - normally I have this well and truly done by December! </span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm not a 'resolutions' person, more a 'make goals' and see how many I can 'tick' off person, so here are my goals (both personal and business) for 2015 and I'm all about 'keeping it honest' to keep me honest with my resolution...</div>
<ol>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Pay off that darn store card.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Pay off that darn 'bill'. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Pay off that darn personal loan. Pretty boring trend so far - but I'm 'keeping it real' - also by focussing on these first three I'll also be able to hit the resolution above focussing on quality not quantity and purging the unnecessary, and simply avoiding the malls like the plague!</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Save the deposit for my first home purchase - with the intention of purchasing said home by December 2015. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Find a distributor for Hazed magazine. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Find someone to assist with the 'sponsorship' side of things for Hazed magazine. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"> </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"> </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;"> </li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Okay, so my goals are still a work in progress - stay tuned! </div>

Today, allow me, to allow you, to take a step back from the Christmas commercialism. The bombardment of flyers in letter boxes, the advertisements screaming down our televisions and radios, and excitedly presented wish lists from our children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and various small friends. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today, take a walk with me. And make it your moment, to just breathe. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Christmas is an enchanted time, not only for our children, but also for us, the magnificent parental providers of said magic. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every year, since my first born love was ejected into this world, I have vowed to not get sucked in by the all so blaring consumerism that is Christmas in the Twenty First Century. I've on many occasions failed. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There WILL be deliciously wrapped presents under our upcycled driftwood tree, the obligatory photo attempted with a sizable man in a red suit attempting to impersonate the ever mythical St. Nicholas, traditional letters written (if not only for the memory box) and carrots gifted for reindeer on long sleigh rides. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But this year, instead of trinket or store bought chocolate advent calendars, I choose to give my children time. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A mason jar. Some card stock. Some washi tape. And smiles sided with memories to last a lifetime...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today I share with you my 2014 take on the traditional advent calendar. It lacks chocolate and small gifts, but bangs with a WHOLE lot of love. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I came across the idea while stalking Pinterest, merging a few ideas together to create my very own DIY jar full of Christmas love for my own precious small people. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have a cupboard full of large mason jars burgeoning out of my kitchen depths looking for purpose at any stage of a given year, which is what I chose to house my finished product. other ideas floating around in my imaginative head space were to pop the cards in pockets or drawers of ready made calendars, hanging them number side out on a wire coat hanger or pegging them off a rope Christmas tree on the wall. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QjrTYQhmubc/VGJ94VzkM7I/AAAAAAAAIDY/o88WJIRVwhk/s1600/image%2B(7).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QjrTYQhmubc/VGJ94VzkM7I/AAAAAAAAIDY/o88WJIRVwhk/s640/image%2B(7).jpeg" width="450" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>You will need:</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Card stock</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A printer</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Washi tape</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Your chosen presentation vessel (In this case, a mason jar). </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can find the free printable on <a href="http://www.hiphomeschoolmoms.com/2013/11/printable-advent-activities-calendar" target="_blank">Hip Homeschool Moms.</a> Big thanks to Hip Homeschool Mom's for creating and sharing it on the interwebs for us all to enjoy!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Print your cards as per the instructions.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Cut, fold and washi tape seal your cards</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Present them as you wish. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I decided to fabric decoupage the jar seal with a festive spot then screw the lid on, too easy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eSqBfQ-qOd8/VGJ_cqnCR_I/AAAAAAAAID0/V_zUGvFprZk/s1600/image%2B(10).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eSqBfQ-qOd8/VGJ_cqnCR_I/AAAAAAAAID0/V_zUGvFprZk/s640/image%2B(10).jpeg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I will now admit to writing all the daily activities in a calendar hidden far from small eyes, so I can be organised as to what I will need on any given day. Some of the activities require some planning, such as decorating a gingerbread house or creating Christmas ornaments. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There are some pearlers in there, I am totally looking forward to watching my children's faces light up each morning upon opening of their daily advent card, discovering what Christmas activity we can enjoy today.<br /><br />Happy memory making, and while I am at it, have a jolly, jolly Christmas x</div>

They can be pretty rough looking however given the right tools, a lick of paint and an upcycling idea (or two), they can turn into something really quite lovely. I've had the herb garden on my list of projects for a while now, and with a few subtle hints of Summer, it's moving to the top of the list quite quickly! <br />
<br />
Have a look at these 5 Upcycled Pallet Summer Projects and see if something pops to the top of your project list this Summer too.<br />

When it comes to cakes Jill is self-taught and has been decorating for customer for almost twenty years, for them the best part of the process is seeing the looks on people's faces when they collect their masterpieces - especially the children!<br />
<br />
The duo have also recently started making cards too, and came about thanks to earthquakes and wanting something to occupy the evenings - the perfect therapy!<br />
<br />
<b><i>To celebrate you will receive a free fudge with any purchase of 'Not Just Cakes' over $10! YUM! </i></b><br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FMQh_1YOk50/VGFXmdnLpiI/AAAAAAAAICQ/g4WYpJuZsEA/s1600/image%2B(5).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FMQh_1YOk50/VGFXmdnLpiI/AAAAAAAAICQ/g4WYpJuZsEA/s1600/image%2B(5).jpeg" height="262" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Jill and Michelle initially were involved in a family bakery, after selling the business they decided to found 'Not Just Cakes' and incorporate a few of their loves - cakes, cookies, classes, cards and catering. Jill's skills in the art of cake decorating have been passed on to Michelle, whilst Jill loves creating three dimensional cakes, whilst Michelle loves decorating cookies - making a great combination. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The generational art of decorating was started long before the art became 'it' and 'now', and before there were so many other makers on the landscape. Both love being creative and believe this flows through their veins, after being passed down from the family matriarch Nana Marion.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The duo became involved with Pay It Forward in March and as Michelle says <i>"I think the thing I love most about it, is how the shop changes everytime I go in. I love my time in there, getting to look around and see what new things all the artisans have made. Everyone brings something different and unique to Pay It Forward and the combined creativity in such a tiny shop just makes it ooze 'wow' factor"</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Join the Gingerbread House decorating class</td></tr>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T5Je5N7Y7iw/VGFaUAzg_eI/AAAAAAAAICk/b1jaIUsGXbk/s1600/image%2B(2).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T5Je5N7Y7iw/VGFaUAzg_eI/AAAAAAAAICk/b1jaIUsGXbk/s1600/image%2B(2).jpeg" height="242" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The changing and evolving projects the duo work on means that everyday is different <i>"Sometimes we are up working early, sometimes we are up late. I think that is one fun part about us, things are so constantly different that we never get bored of what we do."</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Sometimes the duo are asked to interpret a concept and get creative, as Michelle says <i>"We chat about ideas, sometimes search for ideas, but it can tend to be a 'create as we go' situation sometimes. We are always bouncing ideas off each other though - and both of us have different strengths which can come in handy. I have a Pinterest board full of pins that contain ideas I would like to use someday - with a love of cakes, cookies and papercraft - it is rather large!"</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WBPj0Ukb7gQ/VGFdSjh2hOI/AAAAAAAAIDA/H0lGY6ovGdY/s1600/image%2B(3).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WBPj0Ukb7gQ/VGFdSjh2hOI/AAAAAAAAIDA/H0lGY6ovGdY/s1600/image%2B(3).jpeg" height="640" width="512" /></a></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EC7ibh7gDaU/VGFdW0aERkI/AAAAAAAAIDI/yVYwHhlqpHI/s1600/image%2B(4).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EC7ibh7gDaU/VGFdW0aERkI/AAAAAAAAIDI/yVYwHhlqpHI/s1600/image%2B(4).jpeg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A lot of what they create is custom made, with their customers providing very specific briefs to be fulfilled. <i>"Prehaps you could say we are more inspired by products - and what we can do with them. More than a particular person. Our whole family are fans of Duff from 'Ace of Cakes' and the girls at 'Charly's Bakery' though!"</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Be sure to pop by the store this November and check out what else the duo have on offer!</div>

So, <b>I'm here</b> - sitting in Cathedral Square on the morning of our first market - and I'm a little nervous. Okay, maybe not just a little - a lot nervous! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've got some big boots to be filling here. You may have heard - the last team to run the Cathedral Square Markets had been doing so since the 80's... and here I come new and somewhat 'young' and worried that perhaps my expectations are too different. Perhaps people won't like what I'm offering. Perhaps people won't come. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It has been tricky getting stall holders to even buy into this market - what if nobody buys anything? What if they don't want to come back?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There's no one in the square this morning, just a few lonely tourists, what if people are wrong and it isn't ready for the market just yet?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I <i>'think' </i>it is a normal human reaction to feel fear when you want to be proud. I'm not sure that I can be proud yet. I so badly want to be proud of this. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So whilst I watch these City Care workers doing - ah - goodness knows what - in my corner of the square, I'm busy researching, researching ways to better advertise the market. Researching ways to let people know that it is back and that it is just a little bit different, a whole lot more fresh. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hopefully if you are reading this, you make it down to the market today, we will be here from 10am - 4pm (although - obviously I'm here now).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Stay tuned, because you're going to be hearing a whole lot more about this journey of ours x</div>
