Indie Love | Feeling a little bit Mexican...

I have been so caught up with work, family, life and whining about 'how much I have to do', that I haven't actually gotten a whole lot done in the last couple of weeks. I think I was/am exhausted and burnt out, hence all of the whining!

I'm on leave from the day job for a couple of weeks, so to celebrate I've sat myself down for a pep talk and decided to pull my finger out and get some work done! The first port of call is the Winter edition of Hazed which is running SERIOUSLY behind schedule as at today - as long as it is ready to be sent by Early June I'll be happy.

I'm planning on coming to the Winter Encraftment, so you'll be able to buy your copy of Hazed there! YUSS!

I was VERY disappointed in myself to log onto my blog today to see that my last post was all the way back in April - fair enough late April, but STILL!

I had a few drafts in my inbox, but nothing ready to share, which is where this post is coming to you from today. Mexican inspired everything is floating my boat at the moment, I love all things 'bright' especially 'Day of the Dead' masks! And Mexican milagro - huh? what? I hear you say... Mexican milagro are religious folk charms, that are traditionally used for healing purposes.

Anyways - check out this mexican filled post to inspire you...

I LOVE this badge inspired by the Day of the Dead, by Iyari Creates. I'll tell you a secret, I have a whole host of badges up on my desk cubicle at the 'Day Job', it helps to remind me what life is 'really about' when I'm working it hard in the world of finance!

These pieces by The Virgin Rose are a little bit more traditionally, but a whole host of fun! I'd love a collection up on my hallway wall!

And last but not least we get all 'American' with some inspiration from my Pinterest account, something to make and something to eat...

We all live in a Yellow Submarine...

We've decided to plant our feet firmly on the ground and start saving for a house, we don't 'need for anything' and prior to this decision we didn't 'want' for much either. Now having made the decision to cut the nonsense and put our noses down to save I'm finding 'wants' everywhere I look and tonight, I haven't helped make it easier, having spent several... hours... window shopping on Etsy - I started on the site in the name of 'research' for Hazed, but let's be honest, it was more about what would look gorgeous in our new 'home' that we can't halfway afford to purchase as yet! D'OH!!

To prove to myself that it was indeed 'research', I thought I'd share some of my favourite 'yellow' finds that will surely make it into my 'someday' house!

A gorgeous print by the fabulous Flora Waycott, I can imagine this framed and hanging amongst a photo gallery which would run the length of the hallway...

This cushion could make it into almost any room of the house! Hayley from The Art Room is talented (AND super sweet!) I'm thinking on an occasional chair in the corner of the lounge! But could look just as at home on the bed, or in Brooklyn's room!

Who doesn't love bunting? I could put bunting in every room of the house - but this cheerful bunting by The Paperbird Society would need to find a home in my laundry - yes you are reading that right! I think it is one space that shouldn't 'feel' utilitarian, even though that is exactly what the space normally is!!

I've been on the hunt for some 'funky but cool' coasters for a while now, and I think these are fitting the bill - I like my things bright and modern - but there is just something about crochet that I keep coming back too. These beauties are by Vintage Ambience.

Now before you get any crazy ideas - no I'm not due to make a 'special announcement' but these last two pieces really are fantastic and should be on the 'house list' for all who are expecting! The gorgeous cot quilt is by Empire Eco Designs whilst the felt mobile is by Maisie-Moo Creations... both designers really are standouts in their chosen fields (as are all of those I've mentioned tonight).

Would love to hear what you think of my window shopping! I quite enjoyed putting this post together - might have to make it a regular event - although don't mention to hubby how much time this took to 'research' he may confiscate the iPad next time I'm near it :P

Anchored in LOVE...

Every now and again an Indie designer will absolutely surprise me! Stop me in my tracks and make me go 'WOW'! And Lee from Pretty Birds did exactly that when she showed me these gorgeous pendants.

A while back I explained a theme I was looking for to a graphic designer, and while the projects was awesome it came back slightly different to how I'd imagined (different perception and interpretation). However THIS design is exactly what I'd imagine all of those months ago!

I love (pardon the pun) how the toughness of the design, pirate tattoo anyone! Is softened by the use of the word 'LOVE' and then modernised by the use of the blue and white stripes!

This piece perfectly fitted the LOVE theme at the 'Craft Love Festival'! I

If you're not as excited by that line up as I am, then I think you may be reading the wrong blog!!

Craft Lab is coming!!

I mentioned on Facebook a week or so ago about how I had this crazy idea to start up a regular scheduled discussion on my page, inviting all of those with an interest in 'Indie Design' to catch up for a chat and discuss all things 'Indie Business'.

Now that I have had the chance to think, consider and brainstorm I have decided to make this crazy idea a reality. AND so...

CRAFT LAB is coming!

The basic idea with Craft Lab is to once a fortnight catch up with a chat with mates, maybe learning a few tips or ideas along the way. Each fortnight we will have a 'project' and it will be my role to try and keep the chat on subject!

Eventually, if it is popular, I hope to open up the stage on this idea and bring it to a cafe near you, podcasting the conversation the next day... but for now, the stage has been set on Facebook.

The first three labs are going to be fairly broad, mostly as a way to gauge what subjects you all need more support with, and then as we progress further we will be able to be more 'focussed' and pull in the support of industry professionals.

Craft Lab kicks off Tuesday April 2nd at 8pm covering "Marketing Basics"

Followed by: April 16th - "Selling" and April 30th - "Basic Business"

Reading... Most recently, the latest issue of 'Hazed'. Other than the blogs I read I dont have a lot of time for books. I like to read the odd magazine every now and then.

Doing... Taking a rest while my 2 year old's sleeping, checking emails, facebook and numerous fantastic blogs! I should be tidying up the house but Im exhausted, and Oskars only going to mess it all up again when he wakes up!

Excited about... Next year and some of the plans I have for Courtneyclaire which i will of course announce on facebook :)

2013 has crash landed on our doorstep...

In my previous post I said that I would be 'off duty' until the Middle of January, and I am going to be true to my word, but when I saw this fabulous free printable pass through my inbox I just had to let you in loop!!

Dear Colleen...

Dear Colleen, has created a new series of simple and free printables which she will be releasing at the beginning of each month of 2013. A Cutant Calendar Buddy! For January we have Honey Bear, half bumble bee, half ferocious grizzly bear, cute huh!

Simply download here and follow the simple instructions below....

You don't need much to make the Honey Bear, just some thick paper/card, a little ruler, some scissors and double sided tape or glue. Step one, download the design and print out onto the thick paper

Cut roughly around the outline. Then using the back edge of the scissors and a ruler, score along the grey fold line. Be careful not to score through the ears!

Using a small sharp pair of scissors cut along the black dotted line. Go slowly when cutting around the ears and wings, these are a little tricky.

Once you've cut the Honey Bear out fold along the scored grey line.

Put double sided tape or glue on the top side of each flap. Stick the flaps to the body, so the flaps stick behind the adjacent part of the body.

Stand on your desk and enjoy.

The Christmas Gift Market...

In the heart of Auckland City will be a 2 day Christmas Gift Market.

It will bring together a selection of NZ handmade products, craft supplies and quality imports. From jewellery to party supplies and stationery to art.

The businesses selling handmade products will be Artisan Jouel, Bumble Beads, Chocolatandco, Paisley Phoenix Design, FSB Jewellery, Chills Designs, Jewels By Rach and In My World.

There will also be a few NZ businesses selling non-handmade products

like Pixie Party Supplies, Inner-B NZ and Artisan Beads.

Location is The Cnr of High Street and Freyberg Place at

the Pioneer Women's and Ellen Melville Hall.

We'll be there for 2 days on the 17th and 18th Dec from 10am to 5pm both days.

We'll be giving out random goodie bags over both days and also on our facebook page.

Just lately we’ve been thinking about long hot summer days…cold Rekorderlig Cider, BBQ’s and getting a tan!

In the office we listen to sooo many different types of music…. but at the moment we’ve got Mumford and Sons, Ben Howard, Maxwell and Kimbra on the stereo!

When we have any extra money to tuck away we are saving for…land, renovations, summer clothes and trips to somewhere warm next winter…

Our latest obsession is tassels and neon…loving them both!

Favourite book at the moment is The Eight by Katherine Neville…. I read it 20 years ago and it’s as amazing now as it was then! Set in 1972 and stretching back to Charlemagne and The Moors…it’s filled with chess, music, romance, historical fiction and a fascinating mystery all blended together to create an incredible story!

Right now we are trying to get motivated to do some exercise! With the warm weather just around the corner and our bikinis looking very scary…our running shoes need an outing!

We are really excited about SUMMER! Soooo looking forward to the warm weather, bight clothes and of course gorgeous bracelets…. it can’t come fast enough!

Thinking about... how I’m really looking forward to my debut at the Culverden Chrismas Fete on Thursday as a seller. Fingers crossed for some sunshine!

Listening to... Eddie Vedder, a big favourite of mine!

Saving for... some red dulton drawers, I have wanted some for absolutely ages and now have a set on order, wahoo.

Obsessed with... my Cat (mouse), although she’s just come in from the rain and is now putting her dirty paws all over my paperwork.

Reading... The 4 hour work week (this is yet to happen).

Doing... a lot of procrastinating.

Excited about... the new personalized range of jewelery and prints I’m working on for Cloud Nine… soon to be released!
