BOOK CLUB "Hush, Hush"

Today is the most exciting day of the month... it is the 27th... which means it is BOOK CLUB DAY!! And as you may recall today's book is "Hush Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick. I hope you've had an opportunity to read the book, and if you'd like I've included a linky list at the bottom of this post so that you can link up to any posts you may have on the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was a book I had to read until it was finished, I couldn't bear to put it down until I'd read every single last page! And it was almost as bad the second time I read it! There is something about Patch which pulls you in, wanting to know what is going to happen next, it may be the bad boy attraction? All I can say is I'm looking forward to the sequel! Also Becca Fitzpatrick has a really thorough site which gives you loads of information about her books and it is where I 'stole' these questions from.

How does Nora feel when she and Patch are first paired up in Biology class? Would their paths have crossed otherwise?
When it very first happens she feels upset obviously, she looses her 'un-twin' to be seated next to the transfer that nobody knows or likes. But then by the end of the class she is intrigued and curious. Maybe even attracted to Patch
"His black eyes sliced into me, and the corners of his mouth tilted up. My heart fumbled a beat and in that pause, a feeling of gloomy darkness seemed to slide like a shadow over me. It vanished in an instant, but I was still staring at him. His smile wasn't friendly. It was a smile that spelled trouble. With a promise."
It is in Nora's destiny for her to be a part of Patch's life so in one way or another they eventually would have crossed paths.

What draws Nora to Patch? How much of it is physical? How much of it is destiny? Should she have tried to fight the attraction?
Nora's bloodline means that she was always going to end up somehow involved with Patch, however I believe the attraction to have come from two things, firstly the allure of the unknown and the allure of 'the bad-boy' but also the physical attraction, I certainly painted the image in my head of an attractive guy and found the book hard to put down because of it, I believe Nora would have felt the same. Why else would she keep going back to Patch instead of to Elliot, who initially would've seemed to have been a 'safer' option.
Patch definitely made sure that Nora liked him, Chauncey tells us later in the book that Patch was in love with her...
"I've been keeping a close eye on Patch for centuries. Last summer he made his first trip to your house, though you didn't notice. He followed you shopping a few times. Every now and then, he made a special trip out of his way to find you. Then he enrolled at you school. I couldn't help but ask myself, what was so special about you? I made an effort to find out. I've been watching you for a while now."
... ... ...
"That's when Elliot stepped forward, and it didn't take him long to tell me what I'd already guessed. Patch is in love with you."

Why does Elliot help Jules/Chauncey? Why does Vee defend the two Kinghorn boys? Are they equally responsible for what happens?
I don't believe Elliot had much choice, a lot of what he did happened when he was under the influence of mind control, he may have innocently befriended Jules but I don't think he chose for anything else to happen. As for Vee, I think she has her 'boy-goggles' on, she is so spell-bound by the male interest she can't see past it for what it really is. She seems to have a lot of self-esteem/self-conscious issues that the boys make her feel better about herself.

Why does Jules/Chauncey hate Patch so much? Is his anger justified?
I think I'd hate Patch too. We find out in the very first pages about the ritual performed for Chauncey to hand over his body to Patch during the two weeks of Cheshvan. Is it no wonder he hates Patch? Imagine all the things that would be done to a body when it could finally feel something! And what choice did Chauncey have, he was forced into the ritual using mind control, and all because he was born a Nephilim.

What does Dabria want from Nora? What does she want from Patch? Why is she an important character?
Dabria wants Nora gone so that she can have Patch again pretty simple, and pretty damn selfish. She is an important character in the book because she establishes how much Patch loves Nora and how far he is willing to go for Nora. Patch previously loved Dabria and by killing her to save Nora he shows how much he cares about her. Also the jealousy that Nora feels for Dabria also establishes just how she feels about Patch, she wouldn't feel so strongly if she didn't love him.
So final points...
Don't you think it is ironic that Nora chooses to review 'The Sacrifice' for the school paper? I love what she says to Vee when she comes out of the movie.....
"Can you imagine living your whole life never having a clue that the only reason you being kept alive is to be used as a sacrifice."

Also can somebody please explain to me, when Patch and Nora are driving in the Jeep in the rainstorm on the way home from Kinghorn the Jeep breaks down and they have to walk to the hotel... Is this mind control? Because not long after when Patch realises the trouble Dabria is causing he goes to fetch the car and it works perfectly fine?

I know there are many parallels to be drawn between this love story and the 'Twilight' love story. However controversially I'm going to say that I liked this love story more! No real reason.. 'just because'!

I hope you've enjoyed this months book club, I hope you link up or leave your comments below and I look forward to seeing you again September 27th!

Thank you all for your support!

Well, just to be boring, I've no arguments to pick with you over this book!! It is ACE! I almost forgot to breathe from about the halfway onwards! In fact I woke up when the Hub went to work at 2am and continued reading on the day after I started it!

I found the similarities with Twilight a bit annoying, but I really think that the whole 'fallen angel' issue is far more original than vampires (thought I have to say I've read the Twilight books several times now...!), and I also think this book has possibly more depth to it?

The destiny thing was left a bit intangible I felt, and the brginning wasn't entirely clear regarding time frame, but it sucks you in anyhow- my book has now been taken by my girls, and I'd started re-reading it too!

Thought Patch was well done, and I thought the humour Vee demonstrates was really well handled too because it helped to string along the tension, if that makes sense. I think Patch would be the sort of guy any 16 year old girl would fall for, given the chance, and the mind games were really clever once he explained how it worked, things suddenly fell into place and you realised that it was actually a worse situation than you'd thought!

Yup! DEFINATELY enjoyed this book, and I also REALLY want to read the sequel! Excellent choice!! And thank you for sending me the copy!
